
8 Start Here for ModelSim EE/SE
Installation - UNIX platforms
Before you begin a new ModelSim EE/SE installation make sure you have
a Globetrotter license data file (license.dat file); you’ll need the file to run
ModelSim. If you don’t have a license file see "FLEXlm Licenses" (p32).
If you are using Mentor Graphics licensing
Mentor Graphics provides licensing information in their online (Inform)
documentation. See the Mentor Graphics Licensing chapter in the
Managing Mentor Graphics Software document. In addition, Model
Technology provides some basic Mentor Graphics licensing files. See the
readme file in the MGLS- related directory at ftp.model.com/pub/ee
for
more information.
Your workstation’s identification is required for a license; here are the
commands that return the ID:
The commands used to install ModelSim are case-sensitive, so they must be
entered exactly as shown in the following steps. (Note that neither the
prompt nor the <Return> at the end of a line is shown in the examples.)
ModelSim can be installed in any directory. These instructions assume that
you are installing it in the /usr directory. You can change to the desired
installation directory by entering one of the following commands:
cd /usr
or
cd <pathname>
Syntax Platform
hostid SPARC
uname -i HP 700
"uname -i" reports a long decimal number;
convert the decimal number to hexidecimal; the
hexidecimal number is your hostID
uname -m RISC/6000
